The GfÖ provides one-off amounts of € 5,000 to € 10,000 for the implementation of research projects of limited duration and thematic scope (total funding: € 50,000). Funding (in kind, including funds for student assistants) can be applied for for the establishment of a larger research project (“seed money”), for the extension of an ongoing project or for a smaller, independent project. The choice of topics is free, but should follow the principles of scientific procedure. Eligibility for applications: Scientists at German, Austrian and Swiss research institutions / universities with a completed scientific education (usually a Master's degree). Students with a Bachelor's degree can submit applications for a planned Master's thesis. All applicants must already be a member of the GfÖ.
Requirements for the project: High scientific quality and originality of the research project on an international level. Duration of funding: Maximum one year. Starting from 1 April 2024. After the end of
the funding, the GfÖ must immediately submit a proof of the use of the funds provided, together with a final report on the results of the project. The statement drawn up with the proof of use must be supported by verifiable documents. The final scientific report will be published in abridged form in the GfÖ News. Applicants must present the results at an annual GfÖ meeting.
Breakdown of applications:

3) Methods, design of the experiment or field survey with sample sizes,

The length of the application must not exceed 5 pages in total (Arial 11, line spacing 1. 5, margins at least 2 cm, language German or English). The 5 pages should also contain a short CV with a list of relevant publications of the main applicant (pdf). Submission of applications: Applications can be submitted as a pdf document to the Office (info@gfoe. org) by 31 January 2024, with the note “Research Application”. Assessment of applications: The GfÖ Board of Directors decides on the allocation of funding with the involvement of other experts and external reviewers. Applicants shall be notified by 15 March 2024. Data protection law: Applications as well as all information subject to data protection law are treated confidentially by the GfÖ. Experts involved in the review are obliged to maintain confidentiality in advance. Right of revocation: The GfÖ reserves the right to revoke the promised financial support for a project or to reclaim the funds paid if the funding guidelines or additionally communicated special conditions have not been observed (quality of the final report, presentation at the annual meeting), or if the use of the funds cannot be properly demonstrated.
