Every second year, the GfÖ awards the Horst Wiehe Prize to a young scientist for an outstanding dissertation in the field of ecology. With this prize in particular, the GfÖ supports young scientists who have advanced the field of ecological research through their work. The winner of the award must have completed his or her doctoral thesis within the last three years and generally has no permanent employment at the time of nomination.
