GfÖ - Prizes for scientists
The GfÖ awards prizes for outstanding scientific and applied achievements in ecology, which are presented during the annual conference. Prize proposals for the Horst Wiehe Prize and the GfÖ Prize can be submitted by GfÖ members - in alternating years - by January 31st; the proposals are reviewed by the extended GfÖ Board by March 31st and the prize winners are informed in April. The award ceremony with presentation of the work and projects by the prizewinners takes place in the award session of the GfÖ annual conference.
The awards are tied to the current financial situation, which is why the amount of prize money or the frequency with which they are awarded may be adjusted in individual cases.
The GfÖ Medal of Honor will be awarded annually at the annual GfÖ conference from 2020. The prize is aimed at active, leading ecologists for outstanding and pioneering achievements in ecological research.
Starting in 2025, Basic and Applied Ecology will present an award for outstanding student publications for the first time. The BAAE Best Student Paper Award, which is endowed with EUR 500, is aimed at young researchers and will be presented annually at the GfÖ annual conference.
